Since several years ago, the State Personnel Board (BKN) RI has made a breakthrough by making Electronic PNS Card System (KPE) or smart card used by all civil servants (PNS) active as well as retired civil servants.
The purpose of the development of smart card system is to obtain accurate civil servant biometric data for the purposes of planning, development, and welfare of civil servants. And build a database of civil servants electronically that has a degree of authenticity and high identification resulting in data and information accurate.
Electronic PNS Card System (KPE) continues to be developed into new platforms that are no longer just identity cards, but also multi-functional smart cards, including withdrawing salaries and pension funds through ATMs.
As an employment agency in Indonesia, BKN needs a highly efficient solution that not only can print cards to civil servants either active or retired, but also able to replace the old system that has been used and move all user data to the new platform as soon as possible.
After that, BKN chose HID Global, a technology company from Austin, Texas, to produce Electronic PNS Card using FARGO HDP5000 printer. “We feel that they have the most thorough understanding of our needs as government agencies, and of course, have an offer that suits our needs,” said Bajoe Loedi Hargono, Director of Information Systems Development at BKN.
By using such printers, BKN is able to quickly publish high-quality electronic PNS cards that are not easily damaged as well as at a relatively affordable cost. Quality is the most important concern because when civil servants or retirees get a new card, they must use Electronic PNS card to withdraw money from the bank, so the card is durable and not easily damaged.
After several months of use, BKN has successfully issued smart cards for most civil servants. According to Hargono, smart card (smart card) received excellent response from the users of active cards and PNS-PNS.
The KPE project in BKN is said to have generated many benefits for the Indonesian government. HDP5000 is claimed to address one of the most common issues for the use of Information Technology ie cost. Low operational costs allow BKN to distribute KPE cards to all government employees by maintaining a lean and efficient budget. Procurement sections have also been simplified, now BKN gets its printing needs from local partners.
According to Hargono, this printer is very easy to use, almost no different from ordinary document printing. His staff can encode and print cards easily. “In addition, the HDP5000 way of printing electronic PNS cards, making long-lasting cards and card damage is almost impossible, so far, we know only a few instances where we have to issue a replacement card to users,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hary Permadi Kartono, Director of Sales, ASEAN, Secure Issuance, HID Global, said it is happy to partner with BKN that allows the agency to issue electronic smart card cards (smart cards) quickly and cost-effectively. “HDP5000 is one of the most affordable and efficient printers on the market, ideal for government agencies such as BKN,” Hary said.
Hary added, Electronic PNS Card is using the most secure chip contacts in the card technology. This chip contact is also present on the bank card. “KPE is very durable, durable, and has a private key, especially for BKN certainly has a higher security,” he explained.
And as a form of after-sales service, HID Global provides certification training that provides consultation and deployment assistance that helps government agencies meet security and compliance information requirements. Can also seek help from a sales support technical team when faced with problems using products and solutions. “This printer is backed by a warranty, prepared by principals and partners in Indonesia, and makes it easy to contact technical support and the availability of spare parts and consumables. The most important part is we also provide a lifetime warranty,” added Hary.
