Latest data from App Annie mentions as many as 50 million Indonesians actively visit YouTube every month. While the growth of creator numbers with 1 million subscribers increased 4X in the last year. Bayu Skak, a popular YouTuber from Malang, East Java who likes to make Java-language comedy videos, became the first creator from outside Jakarta to reach 1 million subscribers.
Tony Keusgen, Managing Director of Google Indonesia, said the development of the popular streaming video site in Indonesia is growing outside of Jakarta. “We see creators from small cities in Java, Sulawesi, and even Papua create content and achieve success. For that we want to bring the power of this YouTube community to them through the initiatives of the four programs that we announce the YouTube Pop-Up Space, NextUp, FanFest, and YouTube Go,” said Tony in Art: 1 New Museum, Jakarta (09/18/2017 ).
YouTube Pop-Up Space
The YouTube Pop-Up Space facility in Jakarta is again presented as a professional training tool for creators in Indonesia to collaborate with each other and create quality content. Through two Pop-Up Spaces that have been performed in Jakarta the past year, YouTube has trained over 1,000 content creators in Indonesia.
Google’s video-sharing service provides advanced studio facilities, workshop series, and training on how to achieve success as YouTubers. The third Pop-Up Space is focused on a musical creator, where music creators like Eclat Story, Eka Gustiwana, and Fathia Izzati have the opportunity to collaborate and train for the YouTube FanFest Indonesia festival. Tim2one – Chandra Liow and Sheryl Sheinafia for example, will collaborate for the first time in Pop-Up Space Jakarta.
YouTube NextUp
What’s new this year is the NextUp YouTube program. There will be 12 jury selection creators sent to Pop-Up Space to be given intensive training from product experts. They also have the opportunity to explore the possibilities of collaborating with other creators ‘the rising’ in the program.
In the first NextUp program for Indonesia, 75% of selected creators came from outside Jakarta, such as Koplak Story from the city of Purwokerto Central Java, AF2C from the city of Kisaran in Medan, and MMXV from Maluku. This program is specially designed to help them learn how to make videos better, get more subscribers, and make the channel more interesting.
YouTube FanFest
Meanwhile, this year’s FanFest event for the first time will be held not only in Jakarta, but also Yogyakarta (22-24 September), Surabaya (6-8 October), and Bandung (20-22 October). This is done to provide an opportunity for creators from outside Jakarta to gain experience similar to the creators in Jakarta, ie show talent on stage, collaborate with top creators, and meet with fans directly.
Fibriyani Elastria, Head of Consumer Marketing, Google Indonesia, said it continues to be surprised by the enthusiasm of the audience. At the first FanFest in 2015, 3,000 tickets went live within five minutes. Last year, we extended the FanFest to three days and 18,000 people came to watch their favorite YouTubers action. “So this year we want to bring the same excitement to creators and fans in other cities,” said Fibriyani.
The 2017 FanFest Indonesia series will be closed in Jakarta on November 10-12 which will be enlivened by the arrival of internationally renowned YouTube creators such as 1MILLION Dance Studio and Ranz & Niana, as well as local creators Gen Halilintar, Raditya Dika and the world of MANJI who are ready to give the best performance for their fans.
YouTube Go
Once announced in August, the more efficient quota video viewing app is now available for download via the Play Store. YouTube Go is specially designed for users with limited Internet and WiFi networks, equipped with unique features such as controlling the quota count and preview capabilities before watching the video intact.
“Indonesia continues to be an important focus for Google. We hope that all the initiatives we launch today can help more Indonesians succeed on YouTube, and we look forward to seeing more of Indonesia’s unique content enjoyed by a global audience, “Tony concluded.
