The Sony Cinema Line FX3 (ILME-FX3 model) is the lightest and most compact camera in the Cinema Line family, featuring an incredible array of features and technologies with the latest operating system. Compact Design, Easy To Operate
With a compact and lightweight design, the Sony Cinema Line FX3 camera is ideal for handheld shooting, gimbal, and drone mount. This camera weighs only 715 grams, includes a battery and memory card. The camera body is 77.8 mm high by 129.7 mm wide and 84.5 mm deep. The camera grip has been carefully designed to provide optimal flexibility, stability, and comfort for long-duration shooting.
Designed for mobility and efficiency, the FX3 camera body has 5 thread holes (1 / 4-20 UNC) to easily attach compatible accessories. There is a pre-installed XLR grip that attaches securely to the camera body via the Multi Interface Shoe. Without the need for special tools, it is also equipped with 3 additional thread holes for accessories: two at the top and one at the end. External monitors, recording devices, wireless microphone receivers, cold shoe plate attachments, or other attachments can be securely attached.
To enable high-quality audio, the XLR grip unit features two XLR / TRS to FX3 audio inputs. Audio recording formats, including 4-channel 24-bit recording, are available in the camera settings. In addition, this camera offers easy setup because the XLR adapter is integrated into the handle and does not require additional cables or batteries.
The Sony Cinema Line FX3 offers Fast Hybrid autofocus (AF) using a 627 point focal plane phase-detection system[ii] during movie recording. This camera is further enhanced with Touch Tracking (Real-time Tracking) where simply by touching the desired subject on the monitor screen, autofocus and tracking on that subject will initiate.
This full-frame camera also has 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization which is very effective for handheld shooting. The high-fidelity stabilization unit and gyro sensor make it possible to provide a dedicated Active Mode4 for shooting movies in every format, including 4K. In-body image stabilization means that effective stabilization can be achieved with a variety of lenses, including E-mount lenses which do not have stabilization themselves. What’s more, the FX3 camera records image stabilization metadata made with easier adjustments during post-production using the Catalyst Browse / Prepare.[iii].
Cinematic View
The FX3 camera features Sony’s industry-leading image sensor technology to achieve high-speed processing and outstanding image quality. Exmor R CMOS sensor Back-illuminated full-frame with 10.2 megapixels (effective estimate) counts for movie recording (and 12.1 effective megapixels for stills) and the BIONZ XR image processing engine works together to ensure high sensitivity with low noise. The standard ISO range of this camera is 80 to 102,400 (expandable to 409,600 when shooting movies) and the dynamic range is very wide, which is 15+ stops2.
In response to the growing need for more expressive depth, the FX3 Camera, together with the Cinema Line FX9 and FX6 cameras, enables users to create a cinematic look without post-production using the S-Cinetone. Based on color science inspired by Sony’s flagship VENICE cameras, the S-Cinetone delivers natural mid-tones, soft colors, and subtle highlights essential for a cinematic look.
What’s more, the FX3 camera enables creators to shoot 4K movies at up to 120 frames per second. Slow-motion imaging[i] Ultra-smooth (up to 5x) QFHD (3840 x 2160) resolution with autofocus gives this camera new expressive capabilities.
FX3 is compatible with multiple recording functions, including S-Log3 gamma with S-Gamut3.Cine color space to maintain rich colors and gradations that can record in high dynamic range and wide color gamut. This camera also supports internal recording in the XAVC S format and XAVC SI in 4K (QFHD) as well as FHD and XAVC HS formats (MPEG-H HEVC / H.265, 4K only). 4K 60p video output in 10-bit 4: 2: 2 or 16-bit RAW format can be output to external devices[vi] via the HDMI Type-A jack on the FX3.
