Barcelona, Gizmologi – In the annual grand event of Mobile World Congress 2022 yesterday, of course, many global vendors ‘celebrated’ by presenting the latest mobile technology solutions or developments. Many also release new devices ranging from smartphones to laptops. Lenovo is one of them, presenting the ThinkPad X13s series which was much ogled during the event.
While the Yoga series is mostly used by ordinary consumers and those who want a premium design, the ThinkPad series has its own charm. Known for its top-notch durability and modest profile, the ThinkPad X13s, unveiled at the end of February, comes with extraordinary specs—the first ThinkPad series with a Qualcomm processor, plus it supports 5G mmWave.
Yes, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is one of the first laptops to carry Qualcomm’s latest Arm chipset, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. The chipset was first launched in Hawaii late last year, bringing a much higher improvement than the previous two generations. So what is the appeal of this latest Lenovo laptop?
ThinkPad X13s Brings Advanced Camera Setup
Regarding design, it looks normal, aka nothing flashy. ThinkPad X13s body material is made of 90% recycled magnesium, plus it is designed with a process that can reduce carbon emissions by up to 35%. It is only 13.4mm thick and weighs 1.06 kilograms. No fan holes because it uses a fanless design.
With a slightly protruding part above the screen, Lenovo has embedded a sophisticated camera system on the ThinkPad X13s. In addition to the physical cover, there are two 5MP camera sensors, namely an RGB and infrared sensor with a special “Computer Vision” chip. The resolution is much higher than most laptops, has a wide viewing angle and supports auto-framing.
Combined with three microphones, Lenovo also provides AI capabilities to remove ambient noise, making the ThinkPad X13s very convenient for video calls. Not only that, Computer Vision is able to detect the user’s presence, so that it can turn on/dim the screen and lock the device when leaving or coming automatically. And can detect other humans more accurately, for the sake of security.
Under the camera setup, there is a 13.3-inch 16:10 screen suitable for multitasking, full HD + resolution. The keyboard is designed to be splash-proof, while for audio, it is supported by two Dolby-amplified speakers. The ThinkPad X13s features two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a built-in SIM slot.
Have Multi-Core Performance Equivalent to Intel Core-i7
The presence of a SIM slot on this laptop is an advantage in itself. Not only does it support 5G networks, but also the mmWave frequency, which is used by several operators to provide the best speed. This is also possible thanks to the use of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chip, complete with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 support.
Using an octa-core CPU architecture, multi-core performance is claimed to be 80% faster than the previous generation. While the score on GeekBench makes it on par with a laptop with a Core i7-1165G7 processor. But of course it must be balanced with applications that run optimally on processors with Arm architecture, instead of X86 for Intel & AMD.
The chipset is supported by storage options of up to 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD, as well as RAM capacity of up to 32GB LPDDR4x dual-channel. In addition, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is also the first Windows laptop to have 5nm fabrication. Combined with a 49.5WHr battery, Lenovo dares to claim a usage period of up to 28 hours to play videos.
The price of the ThinkPad X13s will start at USD 1,099 or around Rp. 15 million. Consumers who want to ask for their hand must be patient, because global sales will only start in May 2022. Will there be an official presence in Indonesia? We’ll just wait.
