During the IFA 2022 event which took place last week, quite a number of computer or laptop brands brought refreshments to their device series. If ASUS finally announces the price and availability of the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, it’s different with Lenovo which presents the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022.
Yes, if ASUS is still the first generation, this Lenovo folding screen laptop has entered the second generation. The first variant itself was present at the end of 2020—at that time, there were quite a few points of weakness experienced by its users. However, through this latest generation, Lenovo dares to guarantee to present comprehensive improvements, based on user input.
In an official release, Lenovo stated that input or input from user experience stated that it should focus on providing the best experience in the following four key areas; performance, keyboard, screen, and design. The ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 now comes with a bigger screen. But at the same time, it has also been made slimmer both in profile and in bezel thickness.
The design of the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 itself is still quite similar, and Lenovo provides the MIL-STD 810H standard for extra protection. The frame is made of aluminum, while the back body is made of 100% recycled woven fabric. The device is only 8.6mm thick when open, or 17.4mm when closed.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 Supports Intel VSC
The star of a folding laptop is, of course, the screen. For the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022, it uses a 16.3-inch HDR OLED display with 2K resolution, stylus input support, and a 4:3 ratio that makes it have a 12-inch screen on each fold. Given the larger screen, the keyboard has also been revised.
Use a Bluetooth connection, now the size is full-sized complete with a red trackpad in the middle of the keyboard. It can be placed separately, or integrated into the folds of the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 screen for a laptop-like experience, complete with a touchpad that uses haptic feedback. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the keyboard, but also other Windows Hello security options.
With thinner bezels, the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 has a new physical camera cover to hide the 5MP RGB+IR sensor, which is available in the Intel Visual Sensing Controller (VSC) option. The AI-based chip can detect the orientation of the device, whether it is being used in portrait or landscape position, and automatically adjusts the PoV of the camera when in use.
Cameras with Intel VSC can also automatically unlock the screen when the user is closer to the screen, and save power by lowering the refresh rate and screen brightness when the user is not interacting with the device. Embedded a total of three speakers with Dolby Atmos support, as well as a total of four microphones for the best call quality.
Cheaper than ASUS Fold Laptop
How about performance? The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 comes with a 12th generation Intel Core processor up to Core i7, 32GB LPDDR5 RAM, and PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage up to 1TB. The battery itself has a capacity of 48WHr, but Lenovo also provides an additional 16WHr option depending on consumer needs.
For the connectivity sector, a total of three USB-C ports are pinned, two of which support the Thunderbolt 4 standard. There is a nano SIM card slot with an additional option for 5G Sub 6 support. The weight of the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 is around 1.28 kilograms, while when combined with keyboard and stand can reach 1.9 kilograms.
Just like the offer from ASUS, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 will also be available starting from the final quarter of 2022. The price? Cheaper, starting at USD 2,499 or around Rp. 37 million. Generally, laptop variants from Lenovo are present in full in the country, so we’ll just have to wait for their official presence.
