Bangkok, Gizmologi – Huawei reiterated its support for Indonesia’s important role in accelerating the pace of digital transformation in Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries. This step is through digital talent development and knowledge transfer related to the best ideas and innovations in the high-tech field.
It happened at Huawei Connect 2022 which took place in Thailand, to gather perspectives and insights from key global stakeholders in the ICT industry ecosystem.
Driven by the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and supported by secure and transformative services, technologies and ecosystems, ASEAN is predicted to be able to maintain its digital economy growth momentum to reach a value of more than US$1 trillion by 2030.
On the sidelines of the event, Jacky Chen, CEO of Huawei Indonesia said that encouraging digital productivity is now a global trend. Most countries and industries, particularly in the fast-growing ASEAN digital economy bloc, have undertaken digital transformations and implemented a number of expansions and upgrades to boost productivity.
“With Indonesia’s leadership in the G20 Presidency this year and at the ASEAN level next year, Indonesia will play a bigger role in shaping the future of the digital economy and technological developments in the Southeast Asia region. Huawei will continue to support Indonesia and its customers to build a ‘connectivity + computing’ infrastructure on the pillars of cloud technology and an enhanced ecosystem,” said Jacky.
Multi-Helix Collaboration
Particularly in Indonesia, Jacky revealed that Huawei Indonesia has created and supported multi-helix collaboration by involving the government, industry, and communities. This multi-helix collaboration aims to strengthen the ecosystem through a program entitled 100,000 Digital Talents.
Launched in October 2020, Huawei currently nurtures more than 64,000 beneficiaries through this 5-year program to meet the needs of domestic digital talent, which amounts to 600,000 annually.
Meanwhile, Sarwoto Atmosutarno, Chairman of the Indonesian Telematics Society (Mastel) said that in the era of convergence, the rapid development of high technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and the cloud, will present many opportunities and drive the pace of digital transformation in the world. various sectors, including the economy, government, and industry.
“We are confident that Indonesia can continue to make rapid progress parallel to the progress made in the ASEAN bloc. The key is multi-helix collaboration. Together with Huawei as the leader of the global ICT industry, we want to be an enabler in facilitating the smooth convergence of telematics going forward,” said Sarwoto.

Build a Data Center in Batam
Basilio Dias Araujo, Deputy Minister for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, said that Indonesia has established a national plan to encourage more digital infrastructure development, from networks capable of reaching remote areas to infrastructure for national data centers.
In addition, the government has also established the AI National Strategy, the Making Indonesia 4.0 plan, and the latest steps to build a new capital city in Kalimantan that is green and IT-friendly. All of these commitments will present new opportunities, both in physical and digital infrastructure.
Basilio added, as the digital economy continues to strengthen, data center will be built in Batam whose territory is adjacent to Singapore. It is a special economic zone dedicated to international investment. The Indonesian government will provide all the green energy needed by data centers in this area and make Batam a global hub for data exchange.
