ByteDance has now presented its music streaming service called TikTok Music for users in Indonesia. This application will replace Resso, which will end its operations on September 5.
TikTok Music, a platform created by ByteDance, is prepared to challenge the dominant players in the music streaming market, Spotify and Apple Music, as it welcomes new users. Then, what are the advantages offered by TikTok Music compared to other platforms?
“At a glance, the interface design for TikTok Music is similar to Resso, however, the appearance of the new application is made simpler and premium, especially for the display on the home or homepage section,” as quoted by Reuters, Friday (14/7/2023)
Continuing Reso, TikTok Music is still presenting a social media-like experience with features that allow users to pin comments, like, and share related songs. While Spotify and Apple Music do offer users the ability to like songs, they do not, unlike social media platforms, provide a visible count of the total number of likes.
Just like its social media counterparts that feature a For You Page or FYP recommendation page, the TikTok Music’s homepage is brimming with captivating song lists curated to cater to users’ preferences. Users can effortlessly scroll up or down as if they were browsing FYP on TikTok. In the Explore section of TikTok, users will discover an effortless way to explore a collection of song charts that feature the latest viral tunes. It’s a convenient way to find a wide range of song recommendations that are currently trending on TikTok.
Such experiences that users don’t get when compared to other music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. TikTok Music has features similar to Spotify and Apple Music. It displays lyrics while playing songs, offers playlists with different categories, and allows users to search for lyrics.

What’s interesting, as already presented in Resso, the search field on TikTok Music can function similarly to Apple’s Shazam. Just click the music symbol in the search field, then the user will switch to the Song Catch page to identify music from outside.
The Song Catch feature proves to be highly valuable for users who wish to identify the title and artist of a song they hear while using other apps, even if it’s a tune unfamiliar to their ears. This feature also displays the complete lyrics of the song.
TikTok Music allows users to download the songs they like to listen to offline. The application also provides a feature to include music libraries from Spotify or other platforms that work with TikTok.
To be able to enjoy the TikTok Music service, users must subscribe to a variety of price package options ranging from weekly to monthly. For now, TikTok Music still provides one free month for new users.
A similar subscription model has been implemented by Apple Music. Meanwhile, Spotify still provides a free service with compensation for advertisements that appear from time to time when music is played.
