Sharp is about to launch its latest high-end smartphone, after releasing several top-tier and mid-range models in the past year. The Sharp AQUOS R9 is now officially available to buy in Indonesia, as announced on the official website.
Sharp Indonesia recently launched an exciting mid-range smartphone called Sense8. It is an official Android device powered by the latest Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip. The phone is compact and waterproof. Apart from the AQUOS R9, Sharp is also ready to bring the Wish 4 series with a more affordable price tag. Yes, two new Sharp smartphones are ready to hit the market this year.
Interestingly, Sharp will continue to collaborate with Leica to support the camera quality of the AQUOS R9. The AQUOS R9 camera is reinforced with a Leica lens
On May 8th, an official statement was released announcing that the AQUOS R9 is ready for its global debut. “In addition to advanced processing features that allow users to fully enjoy content, and a high image quality camera from Leica Camera AG, the audio sound power and screen brightness are also significantly improved.”
Regarding processing, this latest Sharp Android smartphone is ready to come with a new chip from Qualcomm, namely Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 which was unveiled at the end of March. This chip supports Generative AI features, an updated ISP, and 4nm fabrication which is claimed to be power efficient. Also accompanied by a vapor chamber cooler—for the first time on a Sharp smartphone.
Apart from the powerful new chipset, the Sharp AQUOS R9 also has up to 12GB RAM, paired with 256GB internal storage which can also be used as 8GB virtual RAM to support multitasking capabilities. So what about the Sharp AQUOS R9 camera improvements?
The main sensor measures 1/1.55 inches, uses a Leica Hektor lens, and has been supervised by Leica. The sensor has an f/1.9 aperture, 23mm focal length, and supports a good combination of OIS + EIS. Unlike the R8S series which is officially available, the AQUOS R9 camera is equipped with an ultra-wide f/2.2 sensor.
Both the main sensor, ultra-wide, and selfie camera both have a high resolution of 50MP. Shooting will be more flexible thanks to IP68 protection, plus MIL-STD-810G military certification which makes it highly durable. Appearing in a completely different design, designed by Kazushige Miyake from Miyake Design, uses recycled aluminum material on the AQUOS R9 frame.
Bring Accurate Focus & Gen-AI Features
Apart from the chipset and camera, the screen and audio sectors are also the main parts that have been improved. The AQUOS R9 screen is equipped with a 6.5 inch Pro IGZO OLED panel, full HD+ resolution with an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 240Hz. Meanwhile, the speaker setup is designed to be larger at the top and bottom for maximum volume, and supports Snapdragon Sound technology.
Thanks to the use of a new chip, Sharp AQUOS R9 supports generative AI features to automatically summarize and display voice messages in text form. Likewise, the camera supports accurate autofocus tracking even when the main object is blocked by other objects. Also added are other special video recording modes such as Cinematic Mode and Night Video Mode.
Equipped with a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh, Sharp has not announced the price of the AQUOS R9. However, they confirmed that sales will start this summer, in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and Indonesia. According to Gizmo friends, what is the right price for this latest Sharp smartphone?
