After the OPPO Reno12 and Reno12 Pro, now comes a more affordable option from the Reno series, the OPPO Reno12F 5G. This series brings all the advantages of the latest Reno series, such as AI technology and quality cameras. Sold at Rp 5.299.000, OPPO Reno12F is in the Rp 5 million midrange class which is full of competitors and enthusiasts who crave a well-specified smartphone at a reasonable price.
When juxtaposed with its competitors, OPPO Reno12F 5G has a number of interesting advantages. It becomes one of the affordable smartphones with AI features.
The position of this smartphone is quite strategic, being between the cheaper Oppo A series and the more expensive Reno12 series. Whether the sophistication of the Reno series can still be felt on the Reno12F 5G, and how it feels when used daily? Here is the OPPO Reno12F 5G review.
Design
OPPO Reno12F 5G comes with a different design than its big brothers, especially on the back. It uses the design language of the Cosmos Ring – a round section on the camera inspired by luxury watches. Reminds me of the design of the OPPO Find N3 Fold with a similar camera composition, only simpler. The Halo Light that surrounds the camera sphere also sweetens the design, in addition to adding functionality as it can serve as a notification light.
The dimensions are similar to competitors in the Rp 5 million smartphone segment with a 6-inch screen.67 inches. On the plus side, it’s quite thin at only 7″ thick.8 mm and lightweight at 187 grams only. The unit I tested came in Amber Orange – with peach tones and a flame texture on the matte plastic surface that looks interesting when exposed to light. If you want a more masculine color, Olive Green is also available.
In my opinion, the design of OPPO Reno12F 5G is fairly luxurious. The unique color combination and chrome bezel make it no less luxurious than the more expensive Reno series. On a side note, the sales package includes a case that is made of thick material. However, the case does take away from the smartphone’s aura of luxury – although it does protect the smartphone from hard knocks.

Screen
The OPPO Reno12F 5G screen has similar specifications to its competitors in the Rp 4 million range, with a 6-inch AMOLED panel.67 inches. A 120Hz refresh rate is present, as is a fairly bright maximum brightness – up to 2100 nits in outdoor use. The display glass is protected by Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star2 and a plastic anti-scratch built into the display.
I like the color reproduction produced by the OPPO Reno12 5G screen, as it looks comfortable to the eyes and has perfect color reproduction. The screen brightness is sufficient for clear outdoor use. Touch response also feels fast, with no lag when typing fast or operating menus. It feels like using a more expensive smartphone.
Although the screen is beautiful, the vibration motor embedded is relatively standard, aka still not as precise as smartphones in its price class. Vibration when typing feels less precise. Fortunately, the OPPO Reno 12F 5G screen is equipped with an in-display fingerprint that works quickly.
Camera
OPPO Reno series is known for its quality camera. The OPPO Reno12F 5G is no exception, the smartphone is also equipped with three camera lenses on the back. 50MP f/1 sensor.8 wide, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, and 2MP f/2.4 macros. A fairly complete setup for its class – what about the quality?
I am very satisfied with the quality of photos produced by OPPO Reno12F 5G. The colors look attractive with not too much intensity, yet still colorful. In well-lit conditions, details are sharp and remain clear even when zoomed up to 2x. Dynamic range is also okay, photos remain clear with Auto HDR working well.
When it comes to selfie cameras, OPPO has always delivered – including the Reno 12F 5G, which is capable of producing crystal clear selfies. The new camera quality suffers somewhat when using the 8MP ultra-wide lens at the back, which is still reliable but not as clear as the main or selfie camera.
Photo results from the OPPO Reno12F 5G camera can be accessed through the following Photos gallery.
When it comes to video recording, OPPO Reno12F 5G can record up to 1080p 60fps resolution on the rear camera and 1080p 30fps on the rear camera. The results are satisfactory with minimal vibration thanks to the available OIS and EIS stabilization. The sound recording quality also deserves a thumbs up as it sounds soft and clear. The new video quality suffers a bit with the selfie camera, which is a bit shaky when recording while walking as it is not equipped with stabilization.
Features
Rich in features, that’s my impression when finding out what features are in OPPO Reno12F 5G. The smartphone comes with ColorOS 14 based on Android 14 which I have found intuitive with an easy-to-use UI and minimal bugs. The feature that makes it different from its predecessors is the embedded AI technology.
What are the AI features that can be enjoyed? There’s AI Studio that can create portraits with a variety of backgrounds and outfits, with just one photo of your face. In the photo gallery, there is an AI Eraser feature that is useful for removing unwanted objects or subjects from the photo with precision. I myself am most helped by the AI recording summary feature. When recording voice, the recorded speech can be directly translated into text.
I also liked the presence of Halo Light, a circular notification light around the rear camera. This light can be set to turn on for notifications, incoming calls, charging, and to the rhythm of music. Not only that, the color can be adjusted with many combinations. Useful for me who often puts the smartphone with the screen position down when at the table.
The audio quality of OPPO Reno 12F 5G is very satisfying with dual speakers that sound clear and loud. The volume can be cranked up to 300% without distortion or breaking sound. If you often use it outdoors, there is no need to be afraid of being exposed to rain because this smartphone is IP64 certified. Not to mention, its durability is extremely high – it can be slammed without fear of damage thanks to the all-around armor on its internal components.
Performance
OPPO Reno12F 5G is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 6300 chipset. This 5G chipset is combined with 12GB of RAM which is fairly large for the Rp 5 million price class. Storage options are available in 256GB and 512GB capacities with UFS 2 memory type.2 that have good read-write data speed.
Combined with ColorOS 14, I found the performance of OPPO Reno12F 5G to be pleasant in daily use. Switching between apps can be done quickly and a number of open apps can stay open in the background thanks to the large RAM. The speed of accessing the menu is also satisfactory, my daily activities in accessing messaging applications and social media are well accommodated.
When used for gaming, OPPO Reno12F 5G was able to run Mobile Legends smoothly at super FPS settings, reaching 80fps. Touch screen response feels responsive when moving the character and performing attacks. Running heavier games such as Genshin Impact, it is still playable with the lowest graphics settings with an average of 37fps.
OPPO itself guarantees the smooth running of ColorOS on Reno12F 5G for up to 50 months or the equivalent of 4 years since launch. This means that the smartphone is promised to continue performing well up to 4 years later. Suitable for users who are looking for a smartphone to use for long periods of time.
Battery
As is common with today’s mid-range Android smartphones, the OPPO Reno 12F 5G is equipped with a 5000mAh battery. The durability itself is quite satisfactory, capable of being used up to 1.5 days with daily use on a 4G network. Fully charged at 7am, the battery will only show a low battery indicator at noon the next day. If you play games for 1-2 hours a day, the battery will run out before you go to bed at night.
When the battery runs out, the charging process is also an advantage of OPPO Reno12F 5G. With 45w VOOC fast charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to full in just 50 minutes. No need to wait for a long time, the smartphone can be back in use for the day. It is also compatible with other fast charging protocols, but when not using the VOOC adapter, the speed is less than 45w.
Conclusion
After testing using the OPPO Reno12F 5G as my primary smartphone, I felt at ease when using this smartphone. The sturdy body and durability assurance mean I don’t need to use the Reno12F 5G with too much care. It was intentionally slammed a few times and no damage was done – fun! Reliable performance for daily use scenarios.
My usage experience was positive on all sides. The quality screen, good camera, long-lasting battery, and useful features on the OPPO Reno12F 5G make it feel good. There are some drawbacks of course, such as the ultra-wide lens on the rear camera not being as good as the other lenses. With a price of Rp 5 million, I think this smartphone is highly recommended for Gizmo friends who are looking for extra durability and comfort in long-term use.
