Jakarta, Gizmologi โ Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) immediately moved quickly to restore telecommunications networks in disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. Since the onset of the disaster, Indosat has worked to minimize the impact of telecommunications service disruptions so that people can stay connected with their families and obtain critical information during the emergency.
Network restoration efforts are being carried out across sectors and in collaboration with other agencies. Indosat is coordinating closely with Komdigi and working with the central and regional governments, PLN (State Electricity Company), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), infrastructure providers, and local communities.
"In a critical situation like this, our priority is to expedite recovery while prioritizing team safety. We are operating both permanent and portable generators with additional fuel supplies to address power outages, while also providing satellite links to key hubs to restore transmission when fiber lines are down," said Desmond Cheung, Director and Chief Technology Officer. By December 25, 2025, at least most services in the affected areas will have gradually resumed. Among them, 50% of Aceh, 92% of North Sumatra, and over 97% of West Sumatra will be operating normally.

Indosat Also Distributes Aid to Disaster-Affected Communities

Indosat's efforts to restore network connectivity in the three regions of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have been accompanied by interactions with local communities. In these areas, the company also distributed free aid as a form of concern for others.
The company distributed aid in the form of ready-to-eat meals, drinking water, bedding, blankets, personal hygiene supplies, and IM3 and Tri starter packs through official posts in Padang Pariaman and Langkat. The aid distribution involved local governments, volunteers, and local communities, with priority given to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and mothers and infants.
The company is also committed to continuously monitoring network conditions and community needs in the field to adjust support accordingly. As part of the Indonesian community, the company is committed to being present with a spirit of humanity and mutual cooperation for post-disaster recovery.
