Jakarta, Gizmologi โ As one of the companies affected by the disaster in Sumatra, Telkomsel is committed to immediately restoring disrupted network services. Many base transceiver stations (BTS) were completely down due to damage to PLN infrastructure, such as high-voltage power lines (SUTET), and disrupted road access in the affected areas. Communication network connectivity is crucial for aid distribution efforts.
"We express our condolences for the tragedy that has befallen our brothers and sisters in various regions of Sumatra. Amidst the challenges of access and infrastructure, we are committed to continuing to be present and maximizing all efforts to accelerate network recovery, while expanding humanitarian assistance through collaboration with various parties to ease the burden on those affected," said Telkomsel's Vice President of Consumer Business Area Sumatra, Saki Hamsat Bramono.
Telkomsel moved quickly through the Telcom Cell Emergency Response and Reactive Activity (TERRA) team in collaboration with the Telkom Group to restore the network despite extreme challenges such as needing rubber boats and satellites in Aceh.
In North Sumatra (Sumut), collaboration with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) accelerated repairs to the SibolgaโBarus FO cut line, while West Sumatra focused on damaged backbones; total disruptions reached 1.430 Aceh sites (2.400 BTS, 15 STO), 1.100 North Sumatra sites (1.900 BTS, 10 STO), and 190 West Sumatra sites (360 BTS, 1 STO).
Telkomsel's Assistance Directly Reaches Thousands of Affected Families

Telkomsel deployed portable generators, satellite power banks, and door-to-door technical teams to difficult locations such as Gunung Sitoli, Teluk Dalam, and Sibolga in North Sumatra, as well as Aceh Singkil and Pidie Jaya in Aceh. In West Sumatra, the focus was on repairing 360 base transceiver stations (BTS) damaged by landslides, in coordination with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for safe access, including supplying extra diesel fuel to generators to combat mass PLN blackouts.
Quoted from Kompas.comTelkomsel Network Operations General Manager Nurdianto apologized for the temporary quality decline, but emphasized collaboration between operators such as IOH to speed up recovery.
Beyond network support, Telkomsel also distributed basic necessities and clean water to 400 families displaced by Aceh Singkil and 1.200 families at the Pidie Jaya post, as well as a public kitchen in Sibolga, North Sumatra. In South Tapanuli (Sipirok), Agam, Tanah Datar, and West Pasaman, similar aid reached hundreds of families via local humanitarian posts, in collaboration with local governments and volunteers. The Sumbagut Telkomsel Taqwa Council (MTT) also provided additional social assistance, such as disaster relief in Central Aceh.
This distribution prioritizes directly affected families, complete with emergency alerts. This is done to aid community recovery after the disaster. Close coordination with relevant agencies is expected to ensure that aid distribution reaches its intended targets.
