Jakarta, Gizmology – Apple has taken another step by releasing the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, which is equipped with the next-generation M5 chip from Apple Silicon, which is claimed to bring improvements to graphics performance, power efficiency, and AI capabilities.
This launch marks Apple's effort to maintain its dominance in the professional laptop segment, amidst stiff competition from Windows-based devices with Qualcomm X Elite and Intel Lunar Lake chips.
The MacBook Pro M5 is designed to address this trend, offering Neural Engine performance that's said to be up to 3,5 times faster than the M4. The question is, are these AI-based improvements convincing enough for users still using Intel or earlier-generation Macs?
Apple is trying to appeal to both professional users who demand extreme performance and general users looking for a durable device with long battery life. The claim of up to 24 hours of battery life is certainly a major highlight, especially for mobile users who work without access to power.
AI Leap with M5

The M5 chip is at the center of the entire MacBook Pro refresh narrative. Built on the latest generation of CPU and GPU architecture, the M5 embeds a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core, enabling AI workload acceleration up to 3,5 times faster than the M4, and six times faster than the M1. Apple emphasized that the primary focus isn't just image rendering or gaming, but the ability to run large language models (LLMs) directly on the device without cloud reliance.
In practice, Apple claims the MacBook Pro M5 is capable of accelerating processes like text-to-image, diffusion model generation, and AI-based video editing. Applications like DrawThings, LM Studio, and Topaz Video can run with faster response times. However, some professional users may question the support for third-party software outside the Apple ecosystem, especially considering that many AI workflows still rely on Nvidia GPUs with CUDA on Windows or Linux platforms.
With memory bandwidth reaching over 150 GB/s and storage options up to 4 TB SSDs, claimed to be twice as fast as the previous generation, the MacBook Pro M5 certainly offers a robust infrastructure for AI users. However, successful adoption still depends on Apple's openness to developers and cross-industry application compatibility—something that has been a challenge in the macOS-only ecosystem.
Performance, Battery, and Ecosystem Are the Attractions?

Beyond AI, Apple also highlighted the overall performance of the M5. The ten-core CPU is claimed to offer a 20 percent improvement in multithreaded tasks over the M4, while the GPU delivers up to a 1,6x graphics boost for professional and gaming applications. Claims of up to 86x faster performance than Intel systems sound impressive, but are clearly aimed at legacy users still stuck on pre-Apple Silicon generations. For M1 or M2 users, these improvements may feel more incremental than revolutionary.
For mobile workers, a battery life of up to 24 hours is a strong selling point. Unlike many Windows laptops, which reduce performance when unplugged, Apple claims the MacBook Pro maintains full performance even when running on battery power. This can be a real advantage, especially for field workers or creators who frequently move around without access to power.
However, price remains a major consideration. With a price tag of US$1.599, MacBook Pro The 14-inch remains in the premium segment. Competitors like the ASUS Zenbook AI or the Surface Laptop with Qualcomm X Elite offer competitive prices with similar features, including AI acceleration and long battery life.
Apple may excel in device and operating system integration, but rational consumers will weigh the ecosystem and app compatibility before upgrading.
It's important to note that this information itself is based on global sources. However, it hasn't been announced yet whether there will be a MacBook laptop with M5 performance for the Indonesian market. However, based on market experience in Indonesia, many speculate that the MacBook M5 will soon be launched in the Indonesian market.
