Jakarta, Gizmology – SK hynix officially introduced its new vision as a “Full Stack AI Memory Creator” at the SK AI Summit 2025 held in Seoul on November 3. This move marks the company’s strategic shift from being a mere memory provider to a creator of comprehensive AI solutions.
CEO of SK hynix, Kwak Noh-Jung, stated that the company is now focused on not only meeting market needs, but also playing an active role in building an AI ecosystem with industry partners.
Kwak emphasized that the new era of AI requires cross-industry collaboration to solve technological challenges together. He stated that memory is no longer just a supporting component, but rather a key foundation that determines the speed and efficiency of modern AI systems. "We want to be a co-architect, partner, and eco-contributor in building truly comprehensive AI memory solutions," he said.
In his remarks, Kwak also highlighted the number "1," a reference to SK hynix's current leadership in the global memory market and recognition as one of the most desirable companies to work for. This change in direction underscores SK hynix's ambition to lead the development of next-generation memory in the era of artificial intelligence.
The Role of Semiconductor Memory Amidst the AI Boom

The increasing adoption of AI across various sectors has led to a dramatic increase in data traffic, while memory performance hasn't fully kept pace with processor developments. This phenomenon is known as the "Memory Wall," where limited data transfer speeds are a major bottleneck for large-scale AI systems.
SK hynix believes that memory's role is shifting from a supporting product to a key element in improving AI performance. With increasing processing power requirements, conventional solutions are no longer sufficient to meet the ever-increasing performance demands. Therefore, innovation in the memory sector is crucial to bridging the gap between processor and data.
As a major player in the semiconductor industry, SK hynix strives to accelerate innovation in this field through research and partnerships with various parties. The company emphasizes the importance of an ecosystem approach, where technology development is carried out in collaboration with customers, manufacturing partners, and research institutions to create solutions relevant to the needs of the global AI industry.
Towards the Era of “Full Stack AI Memory Creator”
SK hynix's new vision marks a shift from a "Full Stack AI Memory Provider" to a "Full Stack AI Memory Creator." While previously focused solely on providing products tailored to market needs, SK hynix now aims to contribute to the creation of new solutions that address performance and efficiency constraints in AI systems.
Through the "Full Stack AI Memory" concept, SK hynix will develop new product lines such as Custom HBM, AI DRAM (AI-D), and AI NAND (AI-N). Custom HBM, for example, will enable the integration of GPU and ASIC functions directly into the HBM base to improve power efficiency and reduce data transfer latency. This innovation is expected to be a major breakthrough in enhancing AI performance in data centers and inferencing devices.
Meanwhile, the AI-D series is divided into three categories: AI-DO (Optimization) which focuses on energy efficiency and high performance, AI-D B (Breakthrough) which offers ultra-large capacity with flexible memory allocation, as well as AI-D E (Expansion) expanding the use of DRAM for new applications such as robotics, mobility, and industrial automation. Through this diversification, SK hynix hopes to provide more specific and efficient solutions for various AI computing needs.
Sustainable Innovation for the Global AI Ecosystem
SK hynix asserts that the future of the semiconductor industry will be determined by how quickly the company can adapt to the evolving needs of AI. With a "creator" approach, the company aims to play an active role in shaping the future of intelligent computing, rather than simply following technology trends.
In addition to product innovation, SK hynix also emphasizes the importance of sustainability and energy efficiency. The company is committed to developing low-power memory technology to reduce energy consumption in data centers, while supporting the global net-zero target. This effort aligns with the green AI trend now being adopted by many major technology companies.
SK hynix's move toward becoming a "Full Stack AI Memory Creator" affirms its position as a pioneer in the intelligent memory sector. If successfully implemented, the company has the potential to become a key player redefining the role of memory in the era of artificial intelligence—not just as a supporting component, but as a key driver of innovation in the global AI industry.
