Jakarta, Gizmology โ PlayStation State of Play is back with the main event being the premiere of 007: First Light. This game is being developed by IO Interactive, the studio previously known for the Hitman series.
Sony confirmed that the event will air on Wednesday, September 3, at 11 a.m. Pacific Time (01.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time) via PlayStation's official YouTube and Twitch channels. The 30-plus-minute broadcast will showcase Bond's first mission as an MI6 agent. Players can expect a mix of action-packed scenes, including car chases, infiltration missions, and intense gunfights.
The game's arrival has certainly generated considerable excitement. The James Bond character rarely receives a modern, high-quality game adaptation. However, Sony emphasized that this State of Play will focus solely on 007 First Light. This means gamers shouldn't expect much news on other titles, including Ghost of Yลtei or other Sony-exclusive projects.

Focus on the New Generation of James Bond

IO Interactive itself emphasized that 007 First Light is not simply a spin-off or adaptation of an older film. The game is positioned as the beginning of a new trilogy featuring Bond in his original form. This means that the characters and their setting are not connected to any previous James Bond books or films.
According to IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, this strategy allows them to create more creative space while keeping production costs under control. The studio will build the next game in the trilogy on the foundation of the previous installment, without the need for costly technical redoing. He even offered the analogy of not having to "build a new toilet every time" to illustrate this efficiency.
During a previous appearance at the State of Play event last June, fans speculated that actor Patrick Gibsonโknown for his role in Dexter: Original Sinโwas the face of the new Bond. However, IO Interactive has yet to confirm this. The upcoming event will likely provide clarity and open up discussion about the new Bond interpretation.
Challenges and Hopes Ahead
Despite the high level of excitement, there are also lingering doubts. One of these concerns player expectations for the quality of a Bond game, given that adaptations of the iconic character often draw criticism for their difficulty balancing authenticity with creative freedom. IO Interactive is known for its Hitman formula, which emphasizes stealth, planning, and meticulous mission execution. The question is, can this formula be successfully applied to the fast-paced, action-packed world of James Bond?
Furthermore, the exclusive focus on one title during this State of Play also has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it gives IO Interactive the opportunity to truly showcase the depth of First Light. On the other hand, some in the community are disappointed by the lack of updates on other highly anticipated PlayStation Studios projects.

For the release schedule, 007 First Light is projected to launch in 2026. The game will be available across platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and interestingly also on the next-generation console Nintendo Switch 2. With its wide reach, IO Interactive seems to want to ensure that the next generation of Bond can be experienced by as many gamers as possible.
