Telkomsel Expands VoLTE Service Coverage & Smartphone Vendor Collaboration

SSince a month ago, Telkomsel has carried out trial VoLTE (voice over LTE) service as one of the steps for implementing 5G in Indonesia. Previously, the service coverage Telkomsel VoLTE just arrived in the areas of Jakarta, Depok, Bekasi, Tangerang, and Surabaya.

Now Telkomsel VoLTE service has been expanded to cover Bogor and Sidoarjo areas. At this soft launch stage, Telkomsel VoLTE service can be used on a limited basis by around 300.000 qualified customers (whitelist customers).

Telkomsel also expanded collaboration with mobile phone vendor partners who provide operating systems with features that support the advantages of VoLTE services. Previously, mobile phones that supported Telkomsel VoLTE services were from Samsung, Huawei, and Vivo. Now, there are additional mobile phones that support it, namely Xiaomi, although not all types.

Telkomsel President Director Setyanto Hantoro said that the presence of the Telkomsel VoLTE service is expected to be able to strengthen roadmap company in presenting 5G network services in the country in the future. He explained that the soft launch stage is a moment to test the reliability of Telkomsel's VoLTE service and the customer experience in enjoying the service.

"Therefore, at this soft launch stage, we will continue to monitor the quality of Telkomsel's VoLTE services and monitor customer experience as input for the development of Telkomsel's VoLTE services in the future. This is one of Telkomsel's efforts to continue to prioritize the principle of customer-centricity in the development of our products and services," said Setyanto.

Advantages of Telkomsel VoLTE Services

VoLTE is a voice telephone service based on the 4G LTE network. According to Adhi Putranto, Vice President of Prepaid Consumer Telkomsel, there are many advantages offered by the Telkomsel VoLTE service.

First, customers can use the internet without interruption while making phone calls simultaneously. Previously, if there was an incoming call, the network would drop to 3G or 2G.

Second, VoLTE offers clearer sound than 3G and its quality is high definition (HD). Therefore, Telkomsel dares to claim its sound is better than WhatsApp Call and the like. "OTT voice services such as WhatsApp on operators are called best efforts, so the quality of VoLTE is much better because it directly uses the operator's network," said Adhi.

In addition, the advantage of Telkomsel VoLTE service is that it allows calls to be connected faster because it does not depend on the application. In addition, VoLTE can also be used for video calls as long as the intended mobile phone number supports similar features. No less important, when on the VoLTE network, customers do not need to change networks. So it will save battery and not get hot.

Telkomsel VoLTE Coverage Area

As mentioned above, previously since early May Telkomsel has operated VoLTE services in the Jadetabek and Surabaya areas. Now the Telkomsel VoLTE service coverage area has been expanded to the Bogor and Sidoarjo areas.

At this soft launch stage, Telkomsel's VoLTE service can be used on a limited basis by selected customers. (whitelist customers) that meet several requirements. Among them are being in the Telkomsel VoLTE coverage area. Then have used a card that supports the Telkomsel 4G network (uSIM), and use a device that already has VoLTE service capabilities.

Next, customers simply activate the VoLTE feature through the device settings menu, which will then be followed by the appearance of the words "VoLTE" on the status bar. Thus, at the soft launch stage, it is estimated that there will be around 300.000 whitelist customers who can enjoy the benefits of the service.

To increase the adoption of VoLTE services, Telkomsel will also present a VoLTE quota package promo that will be available in the near future. In addition, customers can still enjoy the special Talkmania VoLTE package, with additional VoLTE phone minutes quota on the monthly Talkmania package. Customers who want to activate these packages can access the MyTelkomsel application.
