XL Axiata Strengthens 4G LTE Network in Aceh and North Sumatra to Support PON XXI 2024

Medang, Gizmology – The 2024st National Sports Week (PON) 9 will be held in Aceh and North Sumatra (Sumut) on 20-2024 September XNUMX. XL Axiata has also prepared a quality network to make the national sporting event a success.

One of the locations anticipated to be a place of concentration of event crowds is Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Banda Aceh. This place will be the location for the opening of PON XXI on Monday, September 9, 2024. For BTS-BTS serving the event location with the assumption that the capacity will increase above 90%, the radio capacity will be increased so that customer comfort is expected to be maintained.

Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi explained specifically that XL Axiata is trying to continue to maintain the performance of the 4G network to support the smooth running and success of the implementation of the 2024 PON XXI event in Aceh and North Sumatra. XL Axiata is also making special preparations by adding 1 mobile base transceiver station (MBTS) at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Aceh to improve network quality during the 2024 PON XXI at this location. In North Sumatra, there are 3 MBTS located at the Sumut Sport Center, Balige, and 1 more MBTS available at Pantai Cermin, Serdang Bedagai Regency.

Desy added that the presence of XL Axiata's 4G network at PON XXI 2024, encourages XL Axiata's commitment to have an impact on the success of this largest sporting event in Indonesia which is held every four years. For XL Axiata, being able to participate in the success of an important national event is a source of pride.

"Preparations have been made by checking network conditions at all PON XXI locations in both Aceh and North Sumatra, including taking direct experience samples from the venue locations and calculating capacity by considering predicted traffic spikes by upgrading as needed," said Desy.

Preparations on the field ahead of PON XXI

Various preparations in the field have been made, starting from increasing capacity to optimizing data service networks at various PON XXI 2024 event venues. In Aceh, among others, there are in Aceh Besar Regency, Central Aceh Regency, Southeast Aceh Regency, East Aceh Regency, North Aceh Regency, Banda Aceh City, Sabang City, Pidie Regency, and Lhokseumawe City, such as at the West Aceh Sports Hall, SHB Complex Archery Field, IDI Sport Center, Blangpaseh Field, KONI Aceh Sports Hall, USK Sport Center, and several other locations in Aceh Province.

Meanwhile, preparations in North Sumatra are in Medan City, Deli Serdang Regency, Karo Regency, Langkat Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Simalungun Regency, Binjai City and Toba Samosir Regency, such as at the Lubuk Pakam Sports Hall, Selayang Disporasu Swimming Pool, Pematangsiantar Sports Hall, Lake Toba, UNIMED Multipurpose Building, PBSI Disporasu Building, Pardede Hall, and several other locations in North Sumatra Province.

The areas with the highest traffic from Aceh and North Sumatra are located in Aceh Besar Regency and Bireuen Regency, Aceh, while in North Sumatra, the highest traffic is in Deli Serdang Regency and Medan City, where several venues are located. XL Axiata has prepared a network at the venue for all sports.

Currently, XL Axiata's 4G network has reached 206 sub-districts in Aceh Province and 340 sub-districts in North Sumatra Province. In total, there are more than 2.500 BTS in Aceh Province and more than 9.500 BTS in North Sumatra Province, the majority of which are 4G BTS. In addition to increasing capacity, other anticipatory steps include optimizing network capacity by looking at the possibility of community or customer mobility from Aceh to North Sumatra or preferably from North Sumatra to Aceh.
