Karawang, Gizmology โ Digital transformation is not just for urban residents. This is what XL Axiata Tbk is trying to do by launching a program called Desa Digital Nusantara (DDN). This program aims to encourage the empowerment of villages and their communities through the adoption of digital technology to all elements of life in the village.
Marwan O Baasir, Chief Corporate Affairs XL Axiata, gave the reason why his party took the initiative to present this program. According to him, we are currently entering the era of the digital economy. In fact, not all of our people are ready, especially those in rural areas.

"Through this Nusantara Digital Village program, we intend to further maximize community empowerment efforts by utilizing digital media so that they are better prepared to enter and benefit from the digital economy. The implementation of this program is also a form of our support for the government's efforts to accelerate digital adoption by communities to remote villages," said Marwan during the launch of the Nusantara Digital Village in Tanjung Pakis Village, Pakis Jaya District, Karawang Regency, Thursday (16/12).
What is the Nusantara Digital Village Program?
Through the Nusantara Digital Village Program, XL Axiata seeks to further maximize community empowerment efforts by utilizing digital media so that they are better prepared to enter and benefit from the digital economy. The implementation of this program is also a form of support for the government's efforts to accelerate digital adoption to remote villages.
Marwan ensured that the DDN Program will be a sustainable program. According to him, XL Axiata is strongly committed to assisting the government in improving digital literacy at the rural level along with the development of an increasingly wide 4G fast internet network. So, this program also includes strengthening the digital ecosystem to rural areas.
In this initial stage, the DDN Program will include educational activities to improve citizens' digital literacy, construction of public facilities, installation of digital facilities and infrastructure, and donations.
Educational activities will be in the form of Sisternet Incubation Classes for female MSME actors. There are six sessions targeting female participants who are MSME actors or managers. Through this class, they will gain knowledge and guidance in utilizing digital solutions to improve business management, increase productivity, and increase product marketing. This class will be guided by certified Sisternet facilitators.
Next is education and socialization of the use of the Laut Nusantara application. This application makes it easier for fishermen to catch fish at sea through a feature that can show the location points of fish. There will be three socialization sessions for residents whose livelihood is fishing. XL Axiata will also distribute gadget devices to access the Laut Nusantara application. Educational topics include the use of applications to support fishing activities, diversification of fishermen's businesses, and introduction to environmentally friendly fishing gear.
The educational targets also include local students. A leadership class will be held that adopts learning materials from XL Axiata Future Leaders (XLFL). This class will take the topic of the importance of continuing to college and learning more about leadership. The speakers for this class will involve a number of XLFL alumni and facilitators.
To make it easier for residents of Tanjung Pakis Village to access the internet, XL Axiata will also install WiFi at strategic points around the village. The quality of XL Axiata's data and internet network in this village is very good, supported by 4G BTS around the village. XL Axiata's 4G signal also reaches areas along the Tanjung Pakis coast which is one of the tourist destinations for Karawang residents.
Supported by KKP, Pemprov and Pemkab, XL Partners with Facebook and Google
"This village in Tanjung Pakis was chosen because it has great potential to advance in the digital era, but has not been utilized optimally. Here there is potential ranging from fisheries, ponds, tourism, to MSMEs. The economic driving community is diverse and active. The products they produce also have high selling value," added Marwan.
The first target of the DDN Program implementation is Tanjung Pakis Village located on the North coast of Karawang Regency. On this occasion, XL Axiata received support from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the West Java Provincial Government, and the Karawang Regency Government.
In addition, two leading technology companies, Google Indonesia and Facebook Indonesia, also provided support. Marwan added that Tanjung Pakis Village is also the location of the Echo Subsea Cable Communication System (SKKL) landing station. This SKKL was built jointly by Facebook (Meta), Alphabet Google, and XL Axiata.
In order to support the productivity of processed seafood, XL Axiata will also implement digital devices based on the Internet of Things (IoT) to help process salted fish. This device will help the drying process to be of higher quality by utilizing energy from solar panels. This innovative digital device was initiated by the XLFL Batch 8 awardees.
The DDN program also includes the renovation of one of the Islamic boarding schools in Tanjung Pakis village, namely the Al Ibtida Islamic Boarding School. With this renovation, it is hoped that this Islamic boarding school will be more comfortable as a place for teaching and learning.
"We also donated routers and free internet quota for a year for six schools, starting from elementary schools, junior high schools, and Islamic boarding schools. Then, donated 15 laptops to the same schools. We hope that this donation can accelerate the increase in digital literacy among the young generation of Tanjung Pakis village, besides of course being able to improve the quality of the teaching and learning process," continued Marwan.
The Nusantara Digital Village Program is part of XL Axiata's sustainability program in building a more digital Indonesian society. This program is designed to be replicated to other regions in Indonesia.
