In the smartphone market, making fun of other brands as a marketing strategy is considered commonplace. But what if you make fun of something you've already done?
Yes, this is done by Xiaomi through a promotional video for the new Mi 9T smartphone. Divided into three episodes, this smartphone mocks the use of notches on smartphones.
For example, in this one episode, where there is a scene where a barber accidentally cuts his customer's hair until it is "choppy", because his concentration is distracted by the notch on his head. The other two videos are not much different, both want to express that the notch is very annoying.

Actually, the video is quite funny, especially since the Xioami Mi 9T carries a bezel-less screen without the frills of a notch to place the front camera. Even though this feature is not new, considering that the Vivo V15 and OPPO Find X already have it.
However, by making the video, Xiaomi seems hypocritical. How could it not be? If we turn back time, this vendor has presented many smartphones with bangs. For example, the Mi 8 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Mi 8 Lite, Pocophone F1, Mi 8, and Mi 8 SE, all of which have bangs.
Actually, this hypocrisy is not only Xiaomi's. Samsung also did the same thing, just a little worse because it openly mocked the notch on the iPhone X at the Galaxy S9 launch event.
Samsung at that time proudly said that the Galaxy S9 had an “Uninterrupted” Infinity Display, meaning it would not interfere when used to watch videos because the screen was full. The South Korean vendor called the device it launched as a device for a better visual experience.

But in the end, Samsung launched a smartphone with a notch, like the latest Galaxy A variant. Although the notch presented is not similar to the iPhone X, the waterdrop shape at the top of the screen is still called a notch.
Actually, it is legitimate for smartphone vendors to mock their competitors. However, when it comes to notches, it seems that the one who deserves to do this kind of mockery is Sony. Considering that this Japanese vendor has not launched a smartphone with a notch at all. Agree?
