Starting at IDR 200 Million! The JAECOO J5 is Officially Indonesia's Most Affordable Electric SUV

Jakarta, Gizmologi – JAECOO, a premium SUV brand under Chery International, has just shaken up the electric car market with the announcement of the price of its latest JAECOO J5 EV. Priced starting at just IDR 249 million, consumers can get a classic yet iconic electric car at a very affordable price.

Previously, JAECOO itself had released a hybrid SUV option that featured a larger size and excellent mileage. The JAECOO J5 EV was certainly designed to fill a very different segment. It was intended for consumers who wanted an electric SUV design, but still at a very affordable price—even the top variant was under Rp 300 million.

Max Zhou, Country Director of JAECOO Indonesia, stated that the launch of the JAECOO J5 EV is a significant step in the company's electrification journey in Indonesia. The JAECOO brand debuted at the IIMS in February 2025 and last September broke a MURI record with the J8 SHSARDIS series of vehicles, which had a non-stop range of up to 1660 kilometers.

"The JAECOO J5 EV electric SUV falls into the B-Class EV SUV category, but is offered at a very competitive A-Class price range. As the first outdoor EV SUV in Indonesia, the J5 EV offers more choices for consumers, especially those looking for a practical and reliable SUV for both daily and weekend outdoor activities," Max added.

Two JAECOO J5 EV Variants Both Sold for Less Than IDR 300 Million, But...

The most striking aspect of JAECOO's latest EV series is its price. The JAECOO J5 EV is priced starting at IDR 249,9 million (OTR Jakarta) for the Standard variant and IDR 299,9 million (OTR Jakarta) for the Premium variant. Both are special prices for the first 1000 buyers and are arguably much more affordable than its competitors.

Looking at the target segment, there are at least two main competitors to the JAECOO J5 EV, which have already been launched: BYD and Geely. Both are priced at over IDR 400 million, making the JAECOO a very attractive alternative. Its after-sales service is also on par with its competitors.

JAECOO offers after-sales programs including a warranty of up to 6 years (or 150 thousand kilometers), a high-voltage component warranty of up to 8 years (or 160 thousand kilometers), free repair services for 4 years (or 60 thousand kilometers), roadside assistance and internet on vehicle for 1 year, and pick-up service for 2 years.

The JAECOO J5 EV is available in four color options: Forest Green, Jet Black, Pristine White, and Ivory Grey. This latest electric SUV can be ordered directly through JAECOO's 14 largest authorized dealers in several major cities in Indonesia, and the company targets to open at least 30 dealerships by the end of the year.

Range Over 460 KM, Supports V2L Technology

Interestingly, both the Standard and Premium versions of the JAECOO J5 EV share the same engine and battery specifications. This electric car carries a 60,9 kWh battery, which is claimed to have a fairly long range of up to 461 kilometers (NEDC). Meanwhile, for recharging, it supports 130 kW fast charging, capable of charging from 30-80% in just 28 minutes.

Meanwhile, the JAECOO J5 EV electric motor itself has a power of up to 155 kW or 210 PS with a maximum torque of 288 Nm, claimed to be able to provide relatively instant acceleration. There are three driving modes that can be selected according to the user's driving style (Eco, Normal, Sport), regenerative braking technology, to Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) up to 3,3 kW which allows the vehicle to turn into a power source for devices such as tent lights, portable stoves, to rice cookers.

Compared to its competitors, which are priced much higher, the JAECOO J5 EV's technology is no less sophisticated and comprehensive. It features Advanced Driver Assistance Systems with 17 different sensors, a 540-degree HD camera with panoramic views, and a 13,2-inch full HD display in the center of the cabin that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and AI-based voice control.

And for the storage aspect, the JAECOO J5 EV has a total of up to 35 compartments, a 480-liter trunk, and a 35-liter front trunk. The Premium version comes with a number of extra features such as a panoramic roof, automatic trunk door, automatic folding mirrors, synthetic leather seats that support cooling, up to 50W fast wireless charging and 64-color ambient light. ADAS technology and a camera that shows the surroundings of the vehicle are also only present on the JAECOO J5 EV Premium.
