Jakarta, Gizmology โ LG is again trying to offer a new way to enjoy entertainment at home through StandbyME 2, a portable TV that is now entering its second generation. This product was previously launched globally last July and has now finally entered the Indonesian market through an exclusive pre-order program at the LG Online Brand Store from November 28 to December 14, 2025. The price is set quite premium, namely Rp19.999.000, complete with bonus selected LG products to sweeten the offer.
The concept of a portable TV isn't new, but LG seems to want to push it further. The first-generation StanbyME was known as a flexible display for a variety of needs, from video calls and streaming to digital decoration. The second generation brought improvements in flexibility and picture quality, making it closer to the position of a "second home screen." However, the product segment remains quite niche, as its price and functionality may not be suitable for all consumers.
However, the trend of modern homes requiring screens in multiple rooms could make this product attractive to urban families. The StanbyME 2 aims to offer a solution without the hassle of moving a large TV or purchasing separate screens in each room, although in practice, ecosystems like large tablets or portable monitors could also be strong competitors.

Flexible Design and a More Versatile Portable Experience

LG brings significant changes to the StandbyME 2 with the ability to detach and attach from a wheeled stand. This detachable concept makes the 27-inch QHD screen more flexible to move to various places, even being able to be used as wall decoration or artistic display with a strap accessory. The system allows for both portrait and landscape orientation intuitively, giving the impression of a versatile display that can adapt to various usage contexts.
Aesthetically, LG maintains a minimalist and modern feel, making the StanbyME 2 suitable for both living rooms and bedrooms. It has also received recognition through the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Award. However, this elegant design does come with a trade-off: the 27-inch screen may be too small for primary TV use, but too large for its primary purpose as a companion or decorative display.
The main attraction is the internal battery, which lasts around four hours. This is sufficient for casual viewing, but still limited if you want to binge-watch a long movie or a drama. Charging is flexibleโyou can use the dock or USB-C. However, this limited usage time could be a concern for intensive users.
Smart TV Features Are Complete, But the Market Remains Niche
The StanbyME 2 brings LG's signature smart TV features, including webOS, LG Channels, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, remote-free voice recognition, and compatibility with Apple AirPlay and Google Cast. The ฮฑ8 AI processor also ensures a sharper visual experience than the previous generation. Speakers on both sides also automatically adjust their EQ depending on screen orientation, providing added value rarely found in portable displays.
For users who want a flexible, portable entertainment device that can function as an interior element, the StanbyME 2 might be an attractive option. However, for consumers who prioritize value and functionality, the Rp19 million price tag will be difficult to justify, especially when larger, higher-quality smart TVs are available for much less.
Ultimately, the StanbyME 2 remains an interesting innovation that reinforces LG's reputation as a company diligently experimenting with new display concepts. However, like its predecessors, its success in the market will depend on whether Indonesian consumers truly need a premium portable TV in their homes.
