Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate stated that, to ensure smooth telecommunications services and avoid potential interference, government will carry out frequency clearance on Day -2 before the event. On that day, all frequencies used by Dorna, ITDC (Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation), as well as the Mandalika Grand Prix Association or MGPA will be turned on to find any potential frequency interference.
“Radio frequency bands that will be of particular concern in frequency clearance activities are in the range of 410 to 430 MHz, range of 440 to 470 MHz, range of 600 MHz, 2.2 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 7 GHz. We prepare this to ensure the service is still sufficient for 100,000 visitors. Therefore, we added frequency spectrum, operator, anda the ICT infrastructure. Both for 4G and 5G,” explained Minister Johnny.
Johnny stated that at the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP event, there will be two types of experiences prepared for visitors, 5G Experience and 5G Showcase. “Experience is in the form of 5G Experience, Telkomsel uses its existing frequency band of 2.1 GHz for 5G Experience commercial services at a number of location points, both in the circuit area and surrounding hotels,” he said.
According to Minister Johnny, telecommunication operators Telkomsel and XL will also jointly use the 3.5 GHz frequency band to strengthen the 5G Experience, especially for visitors around the Mandalika circuit.
“For visitors to be able to enjoy 5G services, please ensure that the smartphone used supports 5G services in the 2.1 GHz frequency band (band n1) and 3.5 GHz (band n77 and n78). In addition, it is also to ensure that the SIM card has been upgraded to a uSIM,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the experience of enjoying the 5G Showcase will be provided by Telkomsel and XL by displaying several types of potential use cases for 5G technology. These include Motorbike Augmented Reality (AR) Gaming, 360 degree cameras for 5G Live Broadcasting, Drones, Smart Robots, AR Motorbike Engine Maintenance, and Cloud Gaming themed on motor races.
“The 5G experience and 5G showcase were carried out in 13 cities in Indonesia, especially during certain events such as for example, the first was done before we gave permission, namely during the Asian Games there was a 5G experience in Jakarta,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.

The Minister of Communication and Information also encourages three cellular operators that have been granted permits for commercial operations to immediately implement both the 5G Experience and full operation of the 5G telecommunication network in the future.
