In the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017, Qualcomm Technologies introduced the latest series of Snapdragon 400. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 mobile platform is for middle-class smartphones and tablets, but now its capabilities are increasingly enhanced.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is the first 400 series to use the 14nm FinFET process and is designed to deliver significant improvements in battery life, graphics and computing performance, imaging and LTE connectivity from its predecessor, Snapdragon 435.
According to Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, it has made many recent changes to the Snapdragon Mobile Platform to deliver the latest mobile functionality with the best value. “With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450, users will see dramatic increases in performance levels, connectivity, battery power and imaging performance,” said Kedar.
Mentioned, up to now, there are more than 1900 designs that use the various series of Snapdragon 400 Mobile Platform, both of which have been launched or are still in the planning stages. Snapdragon 450 is expected to commence a commercial pilot for customers in Q3 2017 and is expected to be available on consumer devices by the end of the year.
4 Main features of Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Mobile Platform
1. Enhanced CPU and GPU
The higher-performing ARM Cortex A53 octa-core CPUs result in a 25 percent increase in computing performance compared to its predecessors. In addition, the integrated Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU provides a 25 percent graphics performance improvement over the Snapdragon 435.
2. Battery Life
Power management improvements result in an increase of up to four hours of usage time compared to Snapdragon 435, as well as a 30 percent reduction in power while playing games, helping users stay connected and productive for longer periods of time. The Snapdragon 450 also comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support, which can recharge smartphone from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.
3. Camera and multimedia
Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is the first of the 400 series to support the Bokeh effect in real-time (Live Bokeh). This Mobile platform is also designed to be better than the previous generation by adding support for enhanced dual cameras on 13 + 13 MP, or single camera support up to 21 MP. This processor supports hybrid autofocus and 1080p 60fps video recording and disclosure, allowing slow motion recording.
Snapdragon 450 also adds support for Full HD 1920×1200 display and Qualcomm Hexagon DSP. This technology enables the processing of multimedia, cameras, and sensors with better performance and lower power than previous generations.
4. Connectivity and USB
Users will enjoy fast LTE connectivity with Snapdragon X9 LTE modem which uses 2×20 MHz carrier aggregation so as to generate a maximum speed of 300Mbps downlink and 150Mbps uplink, support for various mobile networks with Snapdragon All Mode and 802.11ac with MU-MIMO support. Snapdragon 450 also supports USB 3.0, the first in its class to support data transfer with USB quickly.
